Building and Strengthening Community: through experiential learning, by sharing public resources, and reaching across grades and classrooms

A community of students make a school. Cedar Riverside Community School operates in three buildings in Riverside Plaza.

  • 90-100% of students qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch
  • 98-100% of the students are Black, Hispanic, or Asian
  • More than 90% of the students live in apartments

Our students are the children of immigrants and many of them are immigrants themselves. Thus a majority of our students are multilingual with English as their second or third language.

Many of our students can only access the internet at school.  Computers, laptops, tablets, and smart phones separate our students from their peers on the other end of the digital divide.

Middle School students have physical education classes 2 out of every 3 school days and computer lab instruction 1 out of every 3 school days. They have art 1 out of every 3 days.

Upper elementary students have physical education 1 out of every three school days, computer lab instruction 1 out of every 3 school days, and art 1 out of every 3 days.

Students in K-2 have physical education and computer lab instruction 1 out of every 2 school days.

The school must offer the students more resources in art, physical education, and technology.
