GIVING THAT GATHERS MATCHES
INSPIRE, SUPPORT, EMPOWER: LEADERSHIP AND LIFTING UP THE NEXT GENERATION
When you give to Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities, you are giving to gatherings that bring Bigs and Littles together. Your generosity helps create spaces where mentoring matches can connect, learn, and grow. One of the most meaningful ways we gather matches is through Match Hangouts: monthly events that bring youth and mentors together for shared experiences filled with fun, friendship, and possibility.
Each month, $2,000 helps host Match Hangouts that gather youth and mentors at our office for free events such as art and STEM activities, dance workshops, and shared meals. Your giving fuels moments of joy, discovery, and belonging that ripple far beyond a single gathering.
A MATCH MEANT TO BE
For Big Sister Jacie and Little Sister Naomi, those moments have been transformative.
When Jacie Scott moved to Minnesota in 2023, she didn’t expect that a Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders appearance at Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities would lead to a meaningful impact in her life that continues two years later. Jacie Scott, one of our BBBS Game Changers this year, has been mentoring Naomi for over two years now.
At first, Naomi was quiet and cautious. Their breakthrough came on a drive to a youth cheer camp, where Naomi began to open up. By the end of the day, her confidence glowed. Since then, their bond has deepened, and their connection continues to grow through shared experiences such as Match Hangouts.
Jacie thought she was stepping in to guide, but Naomi has taught her just as much. She invites Jacie into moments of play, courage, and joy. “Naomi reminds me that joy is worth the risk of looking ridiculous,” Jacie says.
Their relationship, and the Match Hangouts that support it, show what Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities is all about: gathering to grow, to learn, and to ignite potential.
At a recent Match Hangout, Jacie brought her energy and leadership to the community as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders. Alongside two cheerleaders, she led an unforgettable day of creativity and confidence.
Littles and Bigs started by decorating journals and learning Jacie’s journaling tips, one of her favorite ways to stay grounded. Then came the dancing, with sideline-ready routines, high-energy moves, and plenty of laughter. The event, hosted by Lundstrum Performing Arts, gathered our community in joy, connection, and belonging.
“We’re still buzzing from the excitement, joy, and inspiration this Match Hangout brought,” says Lucas Olson on the BBBS event team. “It’s the perfect example of what happens when giving gathers matches.”
“If it’s something you want to do, do it,” Jacie urges. “Life’s too short. Showing up, even imperfectly, can transform a life.”
OUR IMPACT
Mentored youth thrive in countless ways. Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities creates one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth and help all children achieve their full potential.
Across the country, 74% of young people lack access to mentorship, according to The Youth Access Report from The Harris Poll.
When you give this Give to the Max Day, you are giving to something greater: gatherings that build confidence, spark joy, and empower the next generation.
