MISSION STATEMENT

ACT-TC, in partnership with diverse faith communities, walks alongside asylum seekers as they pursue self-sufficiency and transition to new lives in the U.S.

        WHO WE ARE

ACT-TC has chosen to help asylum seekers because these immigrants typically need the most assistance.  Recent changes in the law have made the plight of Asylum seekers even more challenging.  Food assistance (SNAP) has been slashed, right to work permits (previously free) now cost $550, and new application fees have been imposed, all for people who do not have the money to pay for these necessities.  To be successful in pursuit of asylum, this type of immigrant also needs an attorney to navigate the legal landscape.

In addition, asylum seekers need clothing and affordable housing, and many need to learn English.

ACT-TC needs your help NOW to continue providing the volunteers and resources to fill these gaps during these turbulent times of transition.  We walk with asylum seekers to find housing, food, clothing, legal assistance, English language training, employment once authorized, health care and benefits.  We honor their goals, and we seek to give them the skills and decision-making ability to pursue their choices independently.

This year, in partnership with the Center for Victims of Torture, we have established a fund to pay for the work permits needed by asylum seekers to proudly provide for themselves and their families.  ACT-TC has also set aside funds for emergency one-time needs of those we serve.  We are also assisting with rent and with legal fees for asylum attorneys.

Please help us make the dreams of our asylum seekers a reality with your generous gift today!  Include a dedication with your donation, such as “Work Permit Fund”, “General Purposes”, or something else (and email us with the details at ACT.TwinCities@gmail.com).
