Ann Bancroft dogsledded to the North Pole as the sole woman on the Steger Polar Expedition. She is the first woman to cross both Poles and was named Woman of the Year by Ms. magazine. With the same grit and determination required to reach the remotest locations on earth, Ann founded the Ann Bancroft Foundation (ABF) in 1997 with this vision: every girl and woman who dares to dream should have the support, inspiration, and resources to help make their dreams come true. 

The Ann Bancroft Foundation encourages girls, including cisgender, transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender non-binary individuals, to dream fearlessly and equips them with the skills to thrive via grants, mentorship, and development opportunities. To date, ABF has awarded $2 million to 5,700 Minnesota girls enrolled in kindergarten - 12th grade. Black, Indigenous, Latina, and Asian girls represent more than 60% of the most recent grantees. 

This work is undertaken with the goal of expanding access and advancing equity for girls. ABF programming provides avenues for young and teenage girls to explore their vast interests and passions -- travel, immersion in other cultures, participation in competitive athletics and dance, STEM opportunities, leadership training, fine and performing arts, etc. Girls' self-confidence improves with a trusted mentor at their side. Grantees can dream big and develop hope, tenacity, and resilience.
