Who We Are

Active Kids Association of Sport is a 501c3 Nonprofit Organization established in 2004 to provide multi-sport programs and camps for kids age 5-15.  We believe sport is a vehicle to provide a healthy, active and socially positive environment where kids can build confidence, learn good sportsmanship and have fun leading to a lifelong love of active living.

AKASPORT was created for two main reasons:

First, the decrease in activity levels throughout the country are leading to higher rates of obesity and obesity related illnesses in children. Currently, one in three children in the US is overweight or obese which increases their risks for heart disease, diabetes and asthma in addition to social and psychological issues such as discrimination and depression. Studies show that just 60 minutes of physical activity a day can help prevent all of these issues. AKA offers active programming for a minimum of 60 minutes each day during our after school programs and 4-6 hours of sports and games during our summer camps! Keeping physical activity FUN is the key to keeping kids active.

The second reason AKA was developed was in response to the increase of competition in youth sports. Sports help kids develop physically while learning life lessons about teamwork and good sportsmanship. However, the number of kids under the age of ten that play, train for and compete in only ONE sport all year long is rapidly increasing leading to unnecessary stress and overuse injuries in young athletes. The relentless pursuit of a single sport is very stressful for kids. It deprives them of opportunities to try new things and engage with a wider range of other kids. Most importantly, it takes the fun out of the game. We believe that being exposed to multiple sports encourages kids to try new things, meet new people, learn bigger lessons, and find healthy activities they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

We are on a mission to keep sports fun so kids want to be physically active. We believe that exposure to multiple sports and activities encourages kids to try new things, meet new people, learn bigger lessons and find healthy activities they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

What we do

AKASPORT currently offers an All Sport Summer Camp for kids age 5-12 at multiple Minnesota locations including Adrenaline Sports Center in Ramsey, National Sports Center in Blaine, Centennial-Golden Lake in Circle Pines, Champions Hall in Eden Prairie, and Hopkins Pavilion in Hopkins. These camps provide a new sport and field trip each week where kids can make new friends, try a variety of sports and activities and learn important lessons about leadership, teamwork and how to be a good person.

Within our All Sport Camp we offer a leadership program for our older campers (age 12-15) called Speed of Play. This program was designed to give our older kids the opportunity to mentor younger campers, participate in volunteer opportunities and assist with AKA events.

AKA also offers a unique After School program in six MN Districts: Anoka-Hennepin, Centennial, Hopkins, Mahtomedi, Roseville, Spring Lake Park, and White Bear Lake. These After School programs bring the active fun right to the kids. AKA provides all staff, equipment and curriculum so kids of all backgrounds and abilities can play sports they enjoy or try something new without the high costs of traditional sports or the added challenge of transportation.

AKASPORT offers a fun and safe environment where kids can build confidence and learn good sportsmanship while they develop physically, socially and emotionally.

How you can help

Many parents struggle to afford the increasing costs of youth sports, but we know there are countless benefits to keeping kids active. There are the obvious physical benefits such as lower rates of obesity and obesity related illnesses, but sports also present opportunities for positive demonstrations of teamwork, problem solving and self-discipline, improved academic performance and a more positive self-image.

We strive to keep costs low for our participants and have a vision of providing active programming to all kids at no charge. While we currently offer scholarship assistance and work to fund portions of our programs through grants and sponsorships, the donations we receive from individual donors are a huge part of making our program successful. A donation of any amount will allow us to expand our programs and impact more kids each year.
