GTMD24 Organization FAQs

Give to the Max is Minnesota’s annual celebration of generosity and all of the ways nonprofits and schools improve our lives. What started as a one-time fundraising campaign in 2009 has grown into an annual giving holiday, raising more than $330 million for Minnesota-based organizations to-date!

GTMD is a chance for nonprofits and schools to rally their supporters and share how others can get involved in their work. Plus, thanks to the Bush Foundation and our Regional Amplifiers, there are more than $100,000 in prize grants to help boost organizations’ fundraising efforts!

Early Giving for GTMD24 begins on November 1, 2024, at midnight. The campaign culminates with Give to the Max Day, which takes place for 24 hours on Thursday, November 21.

GTMD24 officially ends at 11:59:59 pm CST on November 21, 2024.

Instead of focusing on just one day of giving, we count all donations received through GiveMN.org between November 1 through November 21 as Give to the Max donations. This allows nonprofits and schools to have a longer fundraising period, generate more support for their causes, and give donors more opportunities to get involved.

GiveMN.org is the home of Give to the Max! While you may use any platform to promote your GTMD campaign, here are some top reasons to use GiveMN.org as your primary fundraising platform:

  1. Prize Grant Eligibility – only donations made through GiveMN.org are eligible to secure prize grants during Give to the Max. Donations made on external websites, via cash, or via paper check are not eligible to win prize grants.
  2. Lower Fees – Did you know that 93% of donors cover the transaction processing fee when making a gift on GiveMN.org? That includes credit card and bank processing fees, too! Most organizations see a 0.5-2% effective fee, making GiveMN.org one of the most cost-effective fundraising platforms on the market.
  3. Donor Convenience – Many donors choose to make multiple donations during Give to the Max. Using our “generosity cart” feature, individuals can make donations to several organizations all at once! Additionally, donors may access their tax-deductibility statements on GiveMN.org anytime so your team doesn’t have to worry about sending official tax-receipts (but we definitely encourage you to send thank you notes in whatever way is right for you!).

There are a couple different ways to access your organization’s page depending on your situation.

If your organization has never used GiveMN.org before, you’ll want to search the site and see if your organization already has a page on the platform. Most organizations that exist in the IRS database automatically have an organization profile page already created on GiveMN.org. To see if your organization’s page exists on our platform, try searching in the Search bar at the top of the website for your organization’s name or EIN.

Once you find your organization, you can request access to it by selecting "Manage This Organization" at the bottom of the page. Once you’ve submitted your request to manage your organization, our Help Team will review your request and verify your claim.

If your organization already has a page on GiveMN.org but you don’t yet have administrator access, you’ll want to follow the same steps outlined above. However, if there are other staff or volunteers at your organization that have admin access to your organization’s page, they can log in to GiveMN.org, navigate to Settings > Admins and approve your request.

GiveMN does not provide matching funds for organizations during Give to the Max. While matching funds are a great way to inspire your donors to action, it’s each participating organization’s responsibility to decide whether or not they want to use this strategy.

Want help developing your cause’s matching fund strategy? Check out our GTMD24 Resources homepage for a free-to-access workbook!

If your organization doesn’t appear at all on GiveMN.org, contact our Help Team at help@givemn.org. From there, our Help Team can walk you through the next steps to verify the tax-deductibility status of your organization and create your page.

If you know your organization already has a page, but you still can’t find it in search results, consider checking the following:

  • Your organization’s display name – make sure the name at the top of your org page is spelled correctly and represents your organization accurately.
  • Other Names – at the bottom of your org page, navigate to “Organization Data.” If your organization is known by other names (i.e., HFH instead of Habitat for Humanity), you can enter alternate names here.
  • Categories – make sure the categories associated with your organization accurately represent the type of work you do. These categories are based on pre-determined IRS nonprofit types.
  • Discoverability – navigate to Settings > General Settings > Discoverability and make sure the button is toggled on. You always have the option to show or hide your organization’s page, so double check that it’s visible!

Welcome! We’re glad you’re part of our generosity community!

GiveMN publishes a number of free-to-access resources to help support your GTMD campaign. You can visit our GTMD24 Resources homepage for logos, graphics, workbooks, boilerplate language, and more!

Additionally, we’re offering a free-to-attend kickoff webinar on September 18, 2024, at 10 am CDT. Visit our video resources page to register for the webinar, or view it on-demand after September 18.

Yes, in addition to completing the GTMD24 registration form, we also ask all participating organizations to complete a short to-do list. This includes uploading a logo image for your organization page, writing 50 or more words in your “About” section, setting up EFT, and customizing your Thank You page.

In addition, organizations who set up EFT disbursement will receive a special, early disbursement of funds raised after GTMD and will not be subject to the $5 paper check fee.

Registration isn’t required to fundraise during Give to the Max. However, organizations whose registration is not approved will not be eligible for $500 15-minute Golden Ticket prize grants, $1,000 Hourly Golden Ticket prize grants, $6,000 Power Hour prize grants, or leaderboards.
