THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR 2025 SLUMBER PAWTY A SUCCESS!

Wow! Thanks to you, we raised nearly $32,000, surpassing our $30,000 goal.  If you haven't yet had a chance to give, it's not too late! Click the red "donate" button at the top of this page. We so appreciate your support.

We Survived! Eight of our intrepid animal lovers spent the night at the shelter, snuggling in a kennel or cat room with their favorite dogs and cats. This event reminds us that while we try to give our dogs and cats everything they need, what they really need is to be in a loving, nurturing, and secure home of their own.

If you are considering adopting, we would love to see you here today. Our hours are 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

If you can't make it to the shelter today, follow us live on Facebook. From 10 a.m. -12 p.m., we have a $2,500 match, thanks to a very generous anonymous donor. That means that for every $25 dollar we raise, we get $50. Fifty dollars turns into $100, allowing us to help twice the number of animals.

We're also participating in a Power Hour. Thanks to The Bella Foundation and Purina, we are eligible to win $500, so please donate starting at 10.00 a.m.

We are so thankful to everyone who has helped us today to raise more than $27,000 toward our $30,000 goal! Last year, we made $39,000 and we would love to beat that total today.

MATCHING DONATIONS

Thank you to the Rosenthal Family Foundation for matching all donations up to $5,000 until April 6th. These funds allow us to save the most vulnerable dogs at Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC), the city’s municipal shelter. Our partnership with CACC is now more vital than ever in our shared mission to save as many Chicago dogs as possible. CACC is facing an overwhelming surge in intakes, and as the nation’s most underfunded major city shelter, the need is urgent. Some of the CACC pups will join us as honored guests at the pawty!

ABOUT HEARTLAND
Our mission is to provide excellent and life-saving care to the most vulnerable dogs and cats until we find them good homes. Through progressive programs, outreach, and collaborative partnerships, we also work to keep all companion animals with their families.

WE KEEP THEM SAFE.

WE SHOW THEM LOVE.

WE FIND THEM HOMES.

Since 2002, Heartland Animal Shelter has found loving homes for over 18,000 pets. We assist animals in need throughout Chicago and the suburbs, with a special focus on overcrowded public shelters like Chicago Animal Care and Control. We also rescue animals from areas with high euthanasia rates in Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas, and as far away as Puerto Rico and Aruba. Many of these animals face uncertain futures, either because of physical or behavioral challenges or due to a lack of shelter space and resources. In addition to helping homeless animals, we provide vital services to our community, including free vaccines and support for families to keep them and their pets together.

WE ARE BACK - AND BETTER THAN BEFORE

In June 2024, a burst pipe sent more than 2.5 feet of water flooding through the shelter. Thankfully, no people or animals were hurt, but we were forced to move our operations to a temporary location for nearly seven months. We took the opportunity to make some improvements and are thrilled to announce that our shelter is now fully restored and better than ever!
