Higher Ground Academy (HGA) is a K-12 Afrocentric charter school with a rigorous academic model that prepares students for a higher education experience. Leadership and faculty at HGA feel strongly that their work as educators is not complete if their students are not pursuing education beyond high school.  In order to graduate from HGA, students must be accepted at post-secondary education institutions. Preparing students to participate fully in 21st century workforces and communities are top priorities for Higher Ground Academy.

“…in the coming decade, 70% of Minnesota  jobs are projected to require education beyond high school.”

The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Fund. What is it?
The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Fund was established to make it possible for Higher Ground Academy students to gain post-secondary education. From grades K through 12, Higher Ground students can earn credits for their academic achievement. At graduation, the accumulated credits translate into tuition payments for higher education.

The fund is named after Dr. King who strongly believed in the power of education to positively shape and change the attitudes and lives of people. His beliefs and deeds have inspired millions of people worldwide and he continues to serve as a role model in the 21st century.

Most students at HGA and their families do not have the financial means to pay for higher education tuition.  The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Fund is structured to create an “earn as you learn” ethic that promotes excellent study habits and reinforces scholarship.  Students’ grades translate into tuition dollars throughout their careers at HGA making it possible for them to enroll in post-secondary institutions. "Earning as you learn" develops the life-long habits that lead to success.

Why GIVE to the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Fund?
Higher education is critical to the life success of high school graduates.  These graduates will be the leaders and community members of the future. They will shape the 21st century.  The tuition payments provided through the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Fund will help HGA graduates prepare for successful, productive futures.

Change children's lives. Send them to college.
