Quinn just finished her first year at Northern Voices. She started as soon as we could enroll her at 14 months and took off from there! We cannot imagine where she would be without the support and guidance from her teachers and school.

Quinn was born with mild to moderate hearing loss and it quickly progressed to profound in both ears. At just under 3 months old, she got her hearing aids. Although the hearing aids helped a little, it wasn’t enough. She had bilateral cochlear implant surgery at 11 months and was activated 2 days before her 1st birthday. Almost instantly, Quinn loved talking and hearing the sound of her own voice. To this day, she starts talking the second the processors go on!

We are very fortunate to have been able to enroll Quinn at Northern Voices at such an early stage in her journey. Within just a few weeks of being there, she started responding to questions, saying a few words, and interacting with us verbally more and more. Quinn is now caught up in terms of where she should be for speech and this is all thanks to Northern Voices!

Although she has caught up to children her age, Quinn still has a lot of work to do. Listening and learning doesn’t come as easy to kids with cochlear implants as it does compared to their hearing peers. Because of this, they can struggle in school if they aren’t given the right foundation. Northern Voices is providing that foundation for Quinn and has for hundreds of other children.

Due to COVID-19, Northern Voices switched to distance learning in March and refunded tuition for April and May. Quinn began receiving weekly teletherapy sessions and lesson plans. Thanks to her teachers’ dedication, Quinn’s continued to progress in speech. In addition to closing the school, Northern Voices also had to postpone this walk, it’s biggest fundraiser. The walk will now be a virtual one and you can participate whenever, wherever you want. We'll be walking on August 15.

Where do donations go?
