This year Northern Voices is hosting a Virtual Walk for Talk and although we can't be together to celebrate, Leo would love for you to participate virtually! We cannot imagine Leo's hearing loss journey without the support and guidance of his amazing school. Leo was born with mild hearing loss and started wearing hearing aides when he was just a few months old. Eventually, his hearing loss progressed to the point where he became deaf and the aides were no longer helping him hear. Just before Leo's second birthday he had surgery to get cochlear implants. This was an amazing gift, as he was given access to all the wonderful sounds around him. We are so proud of him and how hard he works to learn to listen and talk. Unfortunately, this year Leo had an unexpected device failure and had to have surgery to ex-plant and re-implant one of his cochlear implants. Yet again he will have to adapt to his new device to learn to listen all over again. Leo cannot do this without Northern Voices School and his skilled teachers. Leo’s teachers not only teach him they also teach us what we need to do to encourage oral language and what we need to do to help him progress. We are very fortunate to have been able to enroll Leo at Northern Voices and look forward to seeing Leo grow and thrive at this school for his 3rd year. Listening and learning to speak is a challenge for Leo and we are so grateful to have found a school that has all the tools to help him communicate. The school is doing amazing work it is a non-profit so it takes a community of support and costly tuition to keep it open. We greatly appreciate your love and support for Leo, all kids with hearing loss, and his school. Please consider donating and participating in the virtual walk.
By participating or pledging a walker in the Virtual Walk for Talk you will help give a child a voice. The goal of the event is to raise funds to enable all students to reach their full potential regardless of their family's income level. With your help, we can ensure that each and every student is provided with the best opportunity to achieve lifelong success.
WHAT: Walk for Talk is a fun, family-friendly 5K or any distance Run/Walk, sponsored by Northern Voices, to raise both money for and awareness about our school.
