I began volunteering with We Can Ride three years ago. My mom, Kathy, started volunteering while I was away at college and spoke very highly of the program and convinced me to begin volunteering. I am a part of the Thursday night group, and my first impression of this group of people (and horses) is that they are a ton of fun! My earliest memory at We Can Ride is talking to Christian about some of the passions that we both share: fishing and law enforcement. Most of these non-horse related conversations that I had with Christian were followed by Michelle hollering, "Muskrat!", at us. This phrase is all too familiar to Christian and I, which serves as a polite reminder to drop the topic and focus on the activity at hand (popularized by the 'Focker' movies). I think that the only 'person' at We Can Ride that loves Christian more than I do is McDreamy. McDreamy is a loving, 13 year-old thoroughbred that serves as Christian's partner-in-crime during his time at We Can Ride. Spending Thursday evenings at We Can Ride has an impact on my life outside of the program. There are very few things that I enjoy doing after a full day of work, but coming to We Can Ride is something that I have never dreaded doing or seen as a burden. It is something that I truly enjoy and need in my life.  We Can Ride is a much needed burst of positivity in my week that has a lasting impression on me until the following week's class. There is truly nothing that makes me happier than spending time with the great people and horses that can only be found at We Can Ride. From the clients, to the volunteers, to the leaders, to the horses, We Can Ride is a place of love and enjoyment that truly benefits everyone involved. I am willing to help We Can Ride raise funds because it is something that everyone involved needs. The clients need the horses, the horses need the clients, and the volunteers need to help both of them.
