The East Phillips Indoor Urban Farm is a project of the East Phillips Neighborhood Institute (EPNI), a neighborhood advocacy group formed in 2014 (incorporated 2018). EPNI’s goal is to renovate the vacant Roof Depot warehouse to address the community’s stated needs for environmental justice, including addressing major racial health disparities with strategies for providing healthy food, low-income housing, green energy, local jobs, education programs, equity-building, and more.
EPNI’s mission is to promote the economic, social, and public health of the community by developing, supporting, and fostering employment, and development opportunities that meet the needs of the community. We envision a future where local communities are empowered to make important decisions, and are encouraged to creatively work towards greater personal, community and environmental health. We believe that the best way to do this is through collaboration, solidarity, accountability and universal care.
