This pavilion serves three primary functions:
Visibility & Branding: Large-scale exterior branding designed to be visible from a distance (e.g., the top of a sledding hill), serving as a beacon for community gathering during winter events and summer neighborhood celebrations.
The "Saint Paul Living Room": The interior will feature high-resolution maps of Saint Paul and historical exhibits. By showcasing images of 1880s toboggan clubs and the original Winter Carnival chutes, we foster "small-town" Saint Paul connections—encouraging residents to share stories of their neighborhoods, schools, and parishes.
Advocacy Center: The tent will serve as the primary site for a "Step and Repeat" photo backdrop and an information station. Here, we will engage the public in our long-term mission: the design and construction of a permanent toboggan chute to host the Midwest Toboggan Championships.
The primary benefit is the formalization of a "Home Base" for the tobogganing movement. By professionalizing our presence throughout the city, we expect to:
Increase Membership: Convert casual observers into active advocates for the permanent chute project.
Preserve Civic History: Educate the public on Saint Paul’s 140-year tobogganing heritage.
Economic Impact: Lay the groundwork for the Midwest Toboggan Championships, a premier winter event that will drive tourism and local spending during the Saint Paul Winter Carnival.
