SPMA PTO

Saint Paul Music Academy is a vibrant, diverse school community serving approximately 480 students in PreK–5. SPMA reflects the incredible diversity of Saint Paul, with students from many racial, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The school also serves a community with significant economic need: approximately 85% of SPMA students are identified as low-income, compared with about 65% districtwide, and more than half are English Language Learners.

These numbers tell an important story, not about what our students lack, but about the additional barriers some children and families face in accessing the same enrichment, resources and learning experiences that can help students thrive. SPMA’s own family engagement plan recognizes the opportunity gap facing students of color in Saint Paul Public Schools and the need to identify and address barriers that make it harder for students and families to succeed. At the same time, SPMA is intentionally building on the strengths of its community through rigorous academics, vocal and instrumental music education, and strong family and community partnerships.

Every child deserves the opportunity to discover what they are capable of. A classroom project, musical experience, field trip, visiting artist, new instrument, enrichment activity or hands-on learning opportunity, can be the experience that sparks curiosity, builds confidence and helps a student see themselves as successful. When economic circumstances determine who gets those opportunities, the playing field is not equal.

That is why the SPMA PTO is committed to supporting students, teachers and staff. We believe our school community deserves the resources and opportunities needed to help every student learn, grow and succeed. Our goal is to help create a community where every child has the chance to participate, explore their interests, develop their talents and reach their full potential. When we invest in SPMA, we invest in our students, our educators and the future of our entire community.
