Post Modern Times (PMT) is Minnesota's first pay-what-you-can restaurant serving high-quality food with vegetables sourced from local farms. This restaurant is trying something new - everyone is welcome, whether you have money or not. Nearly 200 people a day in the Central neighborhood of Minneapolis benefit from this model.
In direct response to Operation Metro Surge, Modern Times restaurant ceased its operations and reformed as Post Modern Times on January 29, 2026 – an entity which will exist for as long as ICE (immigration and customs enforcement) remains in the state of Minnesota.
Beginning in January 2026, over 2,000 neighbors, allies and friends across the city and the world provided an initial investment into this model. Next, the Minneapolis Foundation provided support, investing in climate friendly and energy efficient infrastructure upgrades that will help expand capacity for increased partnership with local farmers.
This support has allowed Post Modern Times to serve approximately 30,000 meals.
Partnership with neighbors, businesses, staff, private family foundations and volunteers makes Post Modern Times a reality.
Post Modern Times is a restaurant daring to make possible a reality where all neighbors can share a meal together with dignity.
