Minneapolis Cargo Bike Library

This year BikeMN launched the Minneapolis Cargo Bike Library, with the goal of ensuring Minneapolis residents have the knowledge, skills and resources to safely and confidently replace car trips. 

In our first pilot year we had impressive results, including onboarding 80 members who collectively rode 4,100 miles across 675 trips. Check out the graphs below with the ways our bikes were used and the benefits our members reported.

In 2026, BikeMN hopes to sustainably grow the Cargo Bike Library by:

• Adding 2-3 more locations
• Streamlining our operations (leveraging more technology, creating more asynchronous curriculum and supports)

To do this, we need:

More financial resources to help us purchase more bike shelters, pay for bike repairs/maintenance, bike insurance and small stipends to help sustainably compensate the folks keeping our library running (in 2025 all work was volunteer).

New locations and partners: We are always looking for partners who have either/both: space for a bike shelter (or other secure bike parking) and capacity to manage check in/check out of cargo bikes.
