Last Give to the Max Day, we introduced you to Tinkerbell after she was seen being thrown from a moving vehicle and left behind by the people who were supposed to care for her. She arrived at the impound unable to walk without support, covered in road rash, stitches, and soft-tissue injuries. Even then, her spirit never dimmed.

Because of supporters like you, Tinkerbell received immediate medical care, a loving foster home, and the chance to heal. Today she is safe, adored, and thriving with her new family. This is what makes Ruff Start more than rescue. It is not only the opportunity to step in for animals in crisis, it is the community of support that surrounds them the moment they arrive and stays with them until they find the home that truly fits them, just like Tinkerbell did.

Here’s an update from Tinkerbell’s adopter: “The minute I saw Tinkerbell featured on KSTP about a year ago, I immediately fell in love with her and her beautiful eyes. Her story was heartbreaking as she was wheeled onto the stage with her back legs not working properly. We put yoga mats down at home so she wouldn’t slide, and at first she wouldn’t even play with toys.

My family—and my other rescue dog, Missigirl—fell in love with her warm, loving personality right away. Tinkerbell took her cues from Missigirl. We’ve watched her determination as she learned to climb stairs, walk outside, and even try to run. As she gained strength, we were able to remove some of the mats.

Now she loves being outside with me while I garden. She wobbles along… and sometimes sneaks off to climb the multi-level deck stairs. The first time she made it all the way to the top, I was so proud. Nothing stops her.

She adores going to the groomer, loves her baths and nail trims, enjoys visitors, and makes the funniest, most endearing little sounds.

Tinkerbell is amazing—strong, inspiring, determined. Whether she's climbing stairs, playing with her favorite toy, or just hanging out with us, her healing continues. We are so glad we have each other.”

Tinkerbell’s journey from a dog who could not walk to one who climbs stairs to look out over her yard is a powerful reminder of what compassion can do. Her transformation happened because people stepped forward when she needed it most.
