WORKCREW

An Opportunity For Service

People long to do something meaningful or of lasting value.  Learning to work well at a young age is a great benefit in life and can direct youthful energy into productive areas.

Purpose of WorkCrew:

  • 1) Develop healthy character qualities in youth.
  • 2) Instill a good work ethic and sense of pride in accomplishments.
  • 3) Strengthen relational connections to peers and community.
  • 4) Establish positive mentoring relationships in a work setting.

Most of the youth particints enjoy volunteering sacrificially, yet some may have a need to fulfill community service.  Opportunities are available to serve at the Camp or here at home.

WORKCREW CAMPS

Throughout the year there are occasional opportunities to spend a weekend or longer at Timber Bay Camp.  Adult Mentors work alongside youth in an atmosphere that is more like a healthy family than a business.  We strive to build the kid, not the camp.  “Work Hard Play Hard” is our motto.

We work about 12 hours on a typical weekend.   Tasks often include felling trees, chopping firewood, building fences, clearing pathways, or anything else that needs attention at the Camp.

We eat great food together, play games, talk seriously, laugh a lot, learn skills, and build community.  There are often groups from other cities that we program with, and good friendships are made.

There is a nominal fee for these camps ($20) that basically covers the cost of food, electricity, and insurance.  If your family needs some financial help, please let one of the Timber Bay Staff know.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Although working at Camp is a great experience, connecting with our local community is also valuable. Mentors collaborate with organizations and individuals that need help, mostly in short term projects.  These may be after school or on a Saturday.

Timber Bay mentors are motivated by faith in Christ to instill hope and build identity in youth. We encourage teens to grow in their understanding of God while respecting them as they make their own choices in the arena of faith.

Timber Bay is a youth mentoring organization in the Brainerd/Crosby Area, as well as 13 other areas around the state.   There are weekly after school groups for both middle and high schools, weekend retreats to Timber Bay Camp, special trips (like Wolf River Rafting), and our main focus is 1to1 mentoring opportunities.
