New update
Update on Cheddar:
We found Cheddar's family after a tip from a community member. They told us that they knew he was at the shelter and thought being with us would be better. Their child fell on him when he was a baby and that is how he hurt his legs. He was born in 2016. He is about 9 years old.
From another source we were told they live in another city nearby and dumped him in our town. Reasoning was his legs and his urinating issues.
What we discovered for his urinating issues- he cannot walk fast enough to get to a litter box that is in a different area/space. We have found that putting litter boxes in areas he is walking around has solved the issue. He will use them and has used them with no accidents since.
We are talking with our vet about seeing a neurologist still. If anything, we will find out if he can be helped or if this is an injury that will continue this way. We are now awaiting the call from the U of M for his appointment!
It is GiveMN month and we have a fundraiser campaign WITH A MATCH!
The Joey Jerkovich challenge begins! Joey is a huge animal advocate who gives his support by helping shelters in anyway he can. He has offered to match every dollar up to $2,000! Which means if we reach our goal of $2,000, he will match and we will have $4,000! Can you help us reach the goal?
At precious Paws, we believe every animal, including those deemed unadoptable, deserves a real chance at life. As a community and as a society, we share the responsibility to alleviate animals suffering by creating an environment that allows them to heal and learn to trust again.
Your support allows us to continue creating a kinder, more loving world for our rescues, giving them the second chances they deserve.
Meet Warrior
Warrior came to us on 9/7/25 at 9 pm at night. He was hit by a car and left in the road. A concerned citizen saw him and called the police. They brought him to us and we rushed down to see him. We brought him to our vet that night. He had a dislocated and broken lower jaw, injury to his right eye, cuts all over and a large open wound behind his right ear.
Our vet kept him for a week and ended up wiring his lower jaw, treating his wounds and said his right eye has no vision. Because his right eye isn't causing any harm to him, it would be good to keep it, unless it starts to bother him. Our foster took him in and started him on his wet food diet and gave him his medicine.
Throughout his time with us, he went back for check-ups for his jaw where we did see some infection and had to treat it with medicine. As of 10/29/25, the wire in his jaw was taken out and he is now adjusting to eating hard food and learning how to navigate with one eye.
He is a true warrior throughout this battle!
Meet Cheddar
Cheddar came to us on 9/9/25 from the police. His back legs were all wonky and he couldn't walk normal. We rushed him to our vet the same day. Two x-rays and bloodwork could not tell us anything. Our vet put him on pain meds, Prednisone, and blood clot medicine.
Within a week, he was walking much better. He could sit in the splits and it wouldn't bother him. Something still isn't right with his legs. But he is a trooper and walks all over the shelter for exercise to keep his legs strong!
He has an appointment on 10/31/25 for a spinal x-ray to see if we can finally see the issue. From there we can do a MRI/CT scan; which runs $1500-$2500. Money we don't have and have been fundraising for.
Our goal is to find out what is wrong and to help him walk again. Raising funds is helping us every step of his way!
Bretta's Pantry
Bretta's Pantry was introduced in November of 2023.Bretta's Pantry provides families with food to get by for a few days- until they can go shopping. Each family will receive cat and/or dog food items that will last them a few days- enough to get by until they can go shopping. We all have been there a time or two when we have to figure out how to stretch that dollar until payday. We don't want anyone to have to decide between buying their own food or their animals' food.
We get donations that our shelter cannot use and we put those into the pantry. We also have the community who will donate food, supplies, and litter. Our volunteers will donate when we need the food also.
MN Snap
We have MN Snap come to our shelter twice a year to provide low cost spay and neutering to our community. This is an awesome program that not only helps our shelter but the community as well.
Precious Paws Goal
Our goal is $2,000 to go towards our Medical Fund. If we surpass that, it would be a dream! We do what we do for them- the animals. That is why we show up everyday, battle the good and bad, and love them unconditionally.
Our big wish for this giving season - to help us get through the ongoing animal shelter crisis. This year, we experienced an increase in injured strays, which has lead to increased expenses. Your donations will allow us to continue providing medical care to animals in urgent need. We appreciate you for your continued support and belief in our shelter!
Please support our Mission by donating today! We cannot do this without YOU!
Your donations matter. Your donations make a difference.
