Meet Camila!

Camila is a cellist in Havana who has participated in CAYO programs over the last four years. As an aspiring professional musician in Cuba, Camila has received 50+ hours of instruction from CAYO teaching artists while enrolled as a student in one of Havana's schools for the performing arts. Camila has risen through the ranks to become part of the CAYO Student Ambassador Program cohort, and recently completed a weeklong intensive with her peers from the US.

Along the way, Camila has received donations of strings, private lessons, and financial support. She has also made lifelong friends and connections with mentors abroad.

Your support of our student scholarship program directly benefits Camila and students like her in Cuba. Thank you!

What is the path of a Cuban student in a CAYO program?

1. Participate in group classes at your school, like this scale class by violinist Desirée Ruhstrat at Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán:

2. Move to the next level by being selected as a member of the Student Ambassador cohort for the week for more intensive chamber music and collaboration with students from the US and Cuba.

3. Receive private lessons and professional development opportunities with CAYO teaching artists.

4. Continuing support enables some students to attend graduate school outside of Cuba, while other young professionals are invited back to CAYO to perform for younger participants.

The CAYO Student Ambassador Program is a comprehensive, ongoing support system for young Cuban musicians, helping them move from elementary level to professional careers through educational and material support.
