Empowering Girls, Breaking Barriers: A Story of Dignity and Hope in Iringa, Tanzania

In Iringa, Tanzania, only 1 in 5 girls have access to formal menstrual health products. As a result, many young girls miss up to 5 days of school each month—losing valuable learning time and opportunities. This gap not only hinders their education but also perpetuates the cycle of poverty that keeps them from thriving.

At Dignity for Daughters (DfD), we believe every girl has the right to grow, learn, and thrive with dignity.

Our vision is simple yet powerful:

“Women and their daughters of Iringa, Tanzania, are empowered to thrive with confidence and dignity.”

Locally Made. Community Driven. Life Changing.

DfD works to break barriers and achieve menstrual equity for every girl in Iringa—by providing access to menstrual health education and sustainable, locally sewn reusable menstrual kits.

Each kit is handmade by women in Iringa, creating local jobs and ensuring that solutions are both culturally appropriate and community-driven. These locally sourced efforts mean your support stays in Iringa—empowering girls and women alike.

A Comprehensive Approach to Empowerment

Education and access go hand in hand. That’s why our program delivers comprehensive reproductive health education to both girls and boys—reinforcing vital lessons about respect, health, and dignity.

While reproductive health is included in school curriculums, it’s only minimally touched upon.  DfD builds on that foundation through interactive learning and open dialogue, helping students understand their bodies and health in empowering, age-appropriate ways.

Alongside this education, we provide reusable menstrual kits so girls can manage their menstrual health with confidence—staying in school without interruption.

After participating in our program, most girls miss one day or less of school each month, compared to the 3–5 days they typically missed before.

DfD’s work isn’t just about products—it’s about empowerment, education, and lasting impact.

2026 Goals: Growth, Education, and Impact

In 2025, we set a bold goal: to educate and provide menstrual kits to 2,025 girls. As of October, we have already surpassed that goal—educating over 2,107 girls and reaching a total of 7,907 students since 2022, with 4,612 menstrual kits distributed.

But we’re not stopping there. In 2026, our goal is to educate and equip 2,600 girls, helping more young women stay in school, thrive, and inspire others.
