Our family’s journey with Crohn’s disease is one we never expected — but it’s one we live every single day.

My husband and three of our four children have all been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Our daughter is the only one in our family who has been spared from this diagnosis.

Our journey began when one of our sons was diagnosed at just 8 years old. As parents, you never imagine your child facing a lifelong, chronic illness so young. Years later, our other two sons were diagnosed while in college — at a time when they should have been focused on their futures, not their health.

Crohn’s disease has impacted every part of their lives. All three of our sons have endured multiple surgeries, including bowel resections and fistula repairs. These aren’t minor procedures — they are life-altering, physically and emotionally exhausting experiences.

Beyond surgeries, the medications required to manage this disease are incredibly strong and often come with serious side effects. While these treatments are necessary, they have also led to additional medical complications, creating an ongoing cycle of challenges our family continues to navigate.

Despite it all, my husband and sons show resilience and strength every single day. But no family should have to face this much uncertainty, pain, and disruption.

That’s why supporting the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation means so much to us. It’s not just about research — it’s about hope. Hope for better treatments, fewer side effects, and ultimately, a cure.

Your support through NWA Gives helps families like mine keep going. It helps ensure that one day, no child, no parent, and no family has to walk this road.

Donations support education, resources, and research that help patients and families affected by Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Your support makes a meaningful difference for those navigating IBD every day.
