2027 Group Cares Camp - Battle Lake Area

The Group Cares Workcamp is coming to Battle Lake July 25-31, 2027. Around 300 teens and tweens will come with their mission trip leaders, eager to help homeowners in need with repairs and up-keep.

Projects focus specifically on residential home repair for elderly, disabled, low-income families, and veteran residents. Home-repair projects range from painting to constructing porches, steps, and wheelchair ramps, and other general home repairs.

Beyond the physical transformation that happens in the neighborhood, campers are looking to make connections with each other, with the families they are assisting, and within the community.

Along with their energy and enthusiasm, campers will bring with them funds they’ve raised to pay for the paint, lumber, and other materials for the requested improvements. Each camper will have raised more than $500 to attend.

The Battle Lake School has kindly agreed to be the host site for our campers, providing them overnight shelter and meals. Campers rise early to eat breakfast, pack their lunch, and have morning devotions; work at their sites all day; and then return in the evening for dinner and an evening program.

In order to bring the Group Cares Workcamp to the region, we must raise matching funds for the materials and supplies – things like paint, caulking, lumber, and hardware. The “community share” is $27,000, which less than a fifth of what the campers have raised themselves.

We are also looking for groups to provide some local hospitality, such as bringing the crews snacks and beverages during their workdays, help packing lunches at the school, joining them at their evening service, and visiting with them during their one afternoon off.  Email Jill Amundson at jilla@wcmca.org to sign up!
