Pollinator Friendly Alliance is working on the whole biodiversity picture at the Big Marine expansion.  Everything is connected in nature and we are committed to restoring, enhancing and protecting this very special chunk of land.

The first of the beaver protections were installed in August, 2025.  More to be installed in the wetlands at Big Marine Expansion as part of the biodiversity project Fall of 2025.  Beaver are a keystone species that many other wildlife depend upon including trumpeter swans, fish, frogs, terrestrials to find access to water and more.

September, 2025 we will be installing turtle protections to guide turtles to the turtle tunnel under the road to prevent turtle fatalities.  The Blanding's turtle nests here. This one of only four known endangered Blanding's turtle nesting sites.

PFA is collaborating with Washington County Parks to enhance and restore this natural ecological jewel in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota.  This 1800-acre parcel was the Kelly & Nelson Family farms for over 50 years.  Parts of the acquisition have been left wild and natural; ecologically important areas range from hardwood forests, prairies, and savannas to frequent shallow marshes, and lakes.  Possibilities for abundant pollinator, bird and herp life are exciting.

This opportunity to enhance and protect WILD areas for special wildlife habitat will begin with herpetological, bird and pollinator inventories spring, 2025.  Endangered and at-risk species have been documented here.  This is a very special 1800-acre acquisition that needs protecting with some areas that have been undisturbed by humans for over 50 years.  Let's get to work!
