327 Households Served Through Thanksgiving Distribution
Through a combined effort of Neighbors’ staff, volunteers, and community supporters, Neighbors broke a new record today during our Thanksgiving distribution, serving 327 households consisting of 341 children, 429 adults, and 215 seniors, all within two hours. The need was great, yet everyone rose to the challenge, and we cannot thank you all enough for ensuring the success of today’s distribution.
In total, 252 turkeys were provided to families preparing for the upcoming holiday, along with bags filled with Thanksgiving essentials such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes, helping bring warmth, joy, and togetherness to tables across our community.
Neighbors would like to give special recognition to Thomson Reuters for their generous contribution of 102 turkeys, to Bimbo Bakeries USA in Roseville for donating 250 loaves of bread distributed alongside the turkeys, and to Augustana Lutheran Church West St. Paul for providing Thanksgiving distribution bags that ensured every guest left with the essential items needed to bring the magic of the holiday to their table.
Today, and every day, we are grateful for everyone who makes moments like this possible. Thank you for providing not only a sustaining holiday meal, but also cheer this holiday season.
Across Minnesota, more families than ever are turning to food shelves for help. Recent SNAP benefit cuts have pushed 440,000 Minnesotan households into crisis, leaving parents, seniors, and working individuals struggling to afford basic groceries.
The impact has been staggering. Statewide, Food Shelf visits have surged from 7.5 million to more than 9 million in just one year, the highest level ever recorded.
At Neighbors, Inc., we’re seeing the same urgent need right here in our community. Since 2019, we’ve experienced a 500% increase of individuals through our Hunger Programs, as more families find themselves in emergency situations. What used to be an occasional visit for help has, for many, become a lifeline.
Every year, Neighbors provides food support and stability services (clothing, financial education, job training through community partners, etc.) to thousands of local households. And behind every number is a story of resilience, of a neighbor doing their best to keep the lights on, feed their family, and find hope in the face of uncertainty.
Your generosity fuels our mission. Because we can buy food at a fraction of retail prices, your cash donation goes up to three times farther, meaning Neighbors' staff and volunteers can be proactive in meeting the increased need through this crisis.
As we approach the end of the year, will you help us support those facing increased food insecurity? Your matched gift will ensure families in our community have access to nutritious food, compassionate support, and the belief that brighter days are possible.
Together, we can help our neighbors not just survive, but thrive.
Give today, and help create the next story of hope.
