The East Polk Heritage Center (EPHC) was established in 1986. Located in Fosston, MN we are a volunteer run nonprofit organization that strives to preserve, exhibit and share the rich history of our region. EPHC was established to serve the communities of Fosston, Erskine, McIntosh, Lengby and Winger and neighboring townships in East Polk County.

Our campus has four buildings, each one unique to the early history of those who settled here in the late 1800's. The L.W. Larson House was donated in 1987 by Allen and Judy Potvin of Fosston. Built in 1887 the house  has been historically restored and holds artifacts from the late 1880's era.

In 1996, a replica early pioneer cabin was constructed and gives visitors an early settler experience. The historic Moen School (built in 1905) was donated by Rosebud Township and relocated to the heritage grounds in 2010. Stepping inside the building brings back memories for anyone who attended or taught in a country school. Each year EPHC hosts 3rd grade students for a one-room school experience. They hear stories from former teachers and students.

The most recent addition to our campus is the Stardig Cabin, donated by the Ostenson Family who had settled near McIntosh, MN. The cabin was built in the late 1880's and is reminiscent of the Swedish immigrants who settled here.

We have been planning for a new museum building for several years to give space for the many collections we have that we don't have room for in our existing buildings. We want to continue to build on the history and growth of our area that will include the early 1900's through mid-century and beyond.

Another major goal of EPHC is to bring history to life for our younger generations through innovative programming and events. Our buildings can serve as a history lesson to many. We have resources in our community and state that can share history through storytelling, music, art and artifacts.

Each year, EPHC holds its annual Heritage Days bringing the food, culture and traditions of the past to life. Demonstrations, art exhibits, traditional dance, music and cooking offer attendees a full cultural experience.

Our major fundraising event is an annual Heritage Holiday Dinner that features a themed menu based on a country. Past dinners have included Scandinavian, Irish, French, German, Greek, and Downton Abbey. In 2020, neither event was held due to the coronavirus pandemic. We are grateful for our members that support us annually and for the generous support we receive from the City of Fosston, Polk County and other public and private entities.
