Black Dirt Theater has returned to bring live performances to Hastings, but we need your help!

After 2 years of being away due to Covid, Black Dirt Theater returned to the stage with a knockout production of "Newsies" that thrilled crowds. With over 100 people from Hastings and the surrounding communities involved in the cast, crew, and orchestra pit, we performed 6 shows to over 2500 audience members! We are so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be bringing live shows back to our Hastings community and we are excited for what have planned for the 2022-23 & future BDT seasons!

We're currently hard at work on the spring play "She Kills Monsters," and will begin performing "Black Dirt Improv" all over town after the new year. We have also started planning for the return of our popular dinner theater coming this February, featuring the musical, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!" We're so excited to be back on stage, and can't wait to start work on our 2023 summer musical "The Music Man," but we're taking a moment to reach out during the annual November giving event: Give to the Max Day!

Our specific challenge in returning is funding these performances. There are many costs associated with running a production. We pay for costumes, props, sets, lighting, sound equipment, musicians, production teams, and more, but there is no greater up front cost that Black Dirt Theater faces than acquiring the rights for our shows. Based on the popularity, size, and type of production, BDT can pay up to $10,000 just to acquire the performance rights for one show. This is before we even get started on any design or production elements!

Your donation will help BDT cover these up front costs and allow us to continue our return back to live theater in Hastings.
