Van Horn Public Library

Established in 1916, the Van Horn Public Library has been a major part of the Pine Island, MN community for over 100 years. As our mission statement says, we are "Your window to a world of information and ideas."  We provide a safe and open place to learn about a variety of topics, read the latest best seller or your favorite classic, watch a wide variety of DVDs, and so much more! 

We love the historic building we are housed in, but we are finding it more and more limiting to offer the best library services to our community. Our partnership with the other SELCO libraries is wonderful in allowing us to request items from other libraries, but it can take a week or more to be delivered. A larger facility would allow us to keep more items on our shelves and speed up the process of checking out your next favorite book.

Programming is another area where we are severely limited by our physical space. A meeting room would allow us to offer more programs for all ages, making us a more vibrant and active space. Community organizations could also reserve it to use it for meetings or programs of their own.

The Van Horn Public Library has been very busy during the last year. Our new curbside pickup service was very popular during the COVID shutdown. It was used over 1050 times from May-August! When we were able to open by appointment this summer, we saw over 350 patrons come in and use our computers or find a book or two to take home. Library staff is very proud of what we were able to accomplish during the pandemic, and we look forward to continuing to improve the items and services we give to the people of Pine Island. 

We are fundraising for our future! Help the Van Horn Public Library raising money to make plans for an expansion or new building. We were blessed with almost $2000 in donations during last year's Give to the Max Day, and we look to improve upon that in 2020. Thank you for helping us with a donation of any amount!
