Survivors Lead is the nation’s first gun reform and direct service organization led 100% by survivors. Survivors Lead provides unique peer support and advocacy for survivors of gun violence. We take a municipality-based approach to curbing gun violence, focused on survivor-led efforts to end gun violence in our cities. 

We work with families and assist them in advocating for their murdered loved one in unsolved/active cases, provide survivor peer support throughout the trial process and beyond. We offer leadership training for survivors of violence interested in running for public office.

We provide trauma-informed advocates assist to improve communication between police, county attorney’s office and grieving families:

Assistance navigating post-death/post-injury bureaucracy (OJP paperwork, etc)

Crisis support from a gun violence survivor advocate

Support during the identification and viewing of deceased loved one

Education, training and presentations on working with gun violence survivors

Assistance notifying friends, family and children

Debriefing or processing the events surrounding the death

Media interaction assistance (press conferences, press releases or keeping media at a distance)

Facilitating communication between families and law enforcement, elected officials, and media

Assistance with victim impact statements

Trauma-informed support groups specific to gun violence survivors
