Steph’s Fundraiser for MCEA

Since 2018, I have worked for Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, a more than 50 year old organization whose mission is to use law and science to protect Minnesota’s environment, its natural resources, and the health of its people. The longer I have been here, the more impressed I have become at just how effective MCEA is at fighting to ensure the everyone in the state has access to clean air and water and a healthy place to live.

MCEA is always fighting on multiple fronts, but I will highlight one that I feel is especially important this year. As AI usage continues to grow, a plethora of data centers to support this growth have been proposed in Minnesota. These proposed projects are often being planned in secret, shutting out the residents of the areas that will be most effective from the process. These are massive new projects which will consume a huge amount of energy and clean water for their operations, and yet have not gone through the proper environment review processes. MCEA is working to make sure that people have a say in what gets built in their communities, especially when those projects threaten their environmental resources.

The majority of our funding comes from individual donors, and every donation, no matter the size, helps to ensure that MCEA will have the resources we need to keep fighting in the courts and at the legislature. In this moment where so much feels like it is out of our control, I am leaning in to what I can do and focusing on what I can change. By investing in MCEA, we can all be a part of creating that better future that we know we can achieve.
