The Minnesota Songwriter Sanctuary (MSS) is transforming access to music production for MN songwriters by providing free, professional-grade recording facilities and fostering a supportive creative community. MSS addresses barriers faced by historically underserved artists, including those from rural, low-income, and marginalized communities, by offering equitable access to tools and opportunities that are often out of reach.

At the heart of our work is our state-of-the-art, 32-channel recording studio, which serves as a springboard for artists to amplify their voices, build careers, and share their stories. MSS also partners with local schools to provide music instruction and audio engineering internships, equipping students with practical skills, industry experience, and creative outlets.

Through free studio time, mentorship, and our Down to the Bottom summer concert series, MSS empowers artists to create and connect with wider audiences, building cultural equity in Minnesota’s music ecosystem. By prioritizing artist-driven solutions and nurturing the next generation of creatives, MSS creates measurable impact: enabling creativity, promoting agency, and enriching communities with music that inspires and unites. Our mission ensures long-lasting change, creating a future where all voices are heard, celebrated, and uplifted.
