I am TRI-ing to get in shape by training for a mini triathlon while also raising funds to help Karen Refugee Youth

Helping myself while helping others...how cool is that? I am hoping to raise funds to help support the Karen Refuge Youth program as part of my mini triathlon training this summer. I have decided to participate in the KOMoves for Youth, a 30-Day challenge to commit to running, walking, biking, or another form of exercise from July 1 – 31. KOM’s Youth Program has made a difference in the lives of over 1,000 refugee youth since the program began. Youth that participate in the program build leadership skills, build connections with their peers and the community and receive opportunities to deepen their understanding and connection to Karen culture, including an amazing traditional dance troupe. Several of our former students have gone on to college or work to give back to their community.  This program is important for raising up the next generation of Karen and Karenni leaders. Many of these kids were born in the refugee camps and have faced incredible challenges adjusting to a new life in MN. In the midst of a negative political climate harmful to refugees, it is rewarding and hopeful to be able to contribute to these resilient young people. 

After too many sports injuries and 4 joint surgeries in addition to life being busy, it can be hard for me to stay in shape. And crossing training seems to help me avoid too much stress on any one joint - thus the triathlon and hula dancing. I am behind on my fundraising because of technical difficulties, but I have already started my training.
I am committing to the following combination of physical activities for the month of July:
Bike - 40 miles
Swim - 2 miles
Walk/job - 15miles
Dance - at least 6 hours
