Stephen C. Nelson Scholarship Fund

The sickle cell community in Minnesota has been honored to have Dr. Stephen Nelson as a tireless and passionate provider to patients and families with sickle cell disease. 

Since joining Children’s Minnesota in 1993 he has dedicated his clinical career to not only understanding and treating this complex hereditary blood disorder, but also the challenges faced by the many families that are disproportionately impacted by this disease.

Dr. Nelson will be retired in January 2021 now serves as our Chief Medical Advisor Sickle Cell Foundation of MN. We have established the Dr. Stephen C. Nelson Scholarship as an enduring tribute to his passionate service to our community. The endowment will provide economically challenged high school students with scholarships for secondary education. With a $25,000 investment, the endowment will allow us to annually recognize two students with a scholarship to assist with class materials, housing, books, etc.
