Thanks so much for the wonderful support! We have received donations through GiveMN, increased awareness with like-minded people and gained additional funds directly to Savannas Forever International. There are many kindred spirits - friends reseeding with native grasses in Arizona, Minnesota and Iowa.

Restoring Rangelands, Strengthening Communities

Launched in 2022, Savannas Forever's Native Seed Initiative addresses the urgent need for locally adapted, native plant seeds to restore degraded rangelands and support climate-resilient livelihoods in East Africa.

Our work is grounded in the knowledge of local communities and supported by scientific research on the practical value of plant diversity. We partner with seed champions—women and youth in pastoral villages—who identify, harvest, and multiply native grasses and legumes vital to healthy grazing systems. These biodiverse seeds are used in restoration efforts across communal and private lands, helping improve forage quality, reduce erosion, and support ecosystems services.

Your contribution goes directly to identify and train women seed champions who learn to harvest seeds from the wild, propogate these seeds and restore their pastureland.

Update:  Nai-Nancy just updated the Tanzanian board about the program. See the blog post here.

We are also preparing for the short rains (usually November through December).  Elders help identify which invasives must be removed to restore the area to its historical abundance.
