“Mik-wane-dun Aud-i-soo-kon” means “remember our teachings” in Ojibwe.
The Mikwanedun Audisookon Center will continue the healing traditions that have been passed down through the generations, providing an urban sanctuary where body, mind, and spirit can become whole through time-honored indigenous culture and practice.
Indigenous Peoples Task Force began to raise funds for Mikwanedun Audisookon in 2014, estimating that this was a $6 million project. Over this long capital campaign we have
- Found many new friends and allies
- Expanded our services, adding clinical space to the design (300 square foot increase)
- Made many cuts to our original design to reduce costs
- Encountered a very steep increase in building costs. The cost for the entire project, planning to completion, is now $12 million.
Today, thanks to generous individuals, and significant contributions from City, County and State levels, we are $350,000 away from the finish line.
Working so hard to raise these funds, we are only more convinced of the significance of this project.
- With this building Ikidowin Youth Acting Ensemble will be the first Black or Indigenous theater in Minnesota to own their own space!
- Culture is the best therapy. Culture is prevention. We will be bringing holistic, culturally based holistic health education and services under the same roof as arts and cultural programming.
A generous $50,000 matching grant means all donations before the end of the year will be matched.
Your gift will make a lasting impact for generations!
