In January, I returned to Eshowe to visit our classrooms and bear witness to the significant impact our important work is making. I was overcome multiple times with competing emotions - uplifting affirmation that ACC's efforts are making a real difference in the lives of young learners, and troubling concern that tremendous need still exists. 

Every time we build a classroom, we change the world for these kids who are so very determined to get an education to advance their lives by breaking the generational cycle of poverty. We give them more than walls and a roof. We give them the chance to learn, grow, and have a lifetime of opportunities open up to them. 

Africa Classroom Connection (ACC) builds schools in rural KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa, where deserving kids are extremely underserved. ACC works with local communities to build much-needed classrooms. Without classrooms, students are either overcrowded in limited structures or taught under trees in harsh conditions and with few resources. During rainy seasons they are unable to learn at all. Founded in 2006, ACC has served over 63,000 kids in the 155+ classrooms ACC has built to date. Unfortunately, more remain on the waiting list, some for as long as five years. 

ACC is aiming to raise $42,000 in this campaign to build 3 classrooms! These will serve 150 students each year for generations to come!

Africa Classroom Connection’s core principle of grassroots participation and co-investment guide the building of classrooms. Communities are eager for education, raising financial deposits of about 3% (significant to them), leveling land, and securing water needed for construction. ACC funds the rest. Community investment means the residents respect and care for their school.
