Build OUR Space LGBQI2 Community Center 4 MN

Our Space is community-driven campaign to create, build, and dream up physical and virtual spaces for queer and trans and LGBTQ+ communities in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.

Our vision is to co-imagine, co-create, and build dynamic community spaces for queer and trans and LGBTQ+ folks specifically centering BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) folks.

In 2018 we conducted community conversations centered around the question “What would a thriving queer and trans community center look like?” Over 500 community members have told us that they want to see a focus on, they said:

• Health and Wellbeing
• Economic Development
• Arts and Culture
• Leadership Development

Since 2018 we have visited LGBTQ Community Centers across the country to learn from their leadership and front line folx. We have built the framework for Our Space. We incorporated, created bylaws, formed a board of directors, set up our phone, website, mailing address and all the things organizations have to do. We meet with many of the leaders of MN LGBTQ srving organizations. We formed a core group, and built relationships with partners. We have held conversations with elected officials and networked and hung out with our community at Twin Cities Pride.  Now we are working on programs to connect Queer, Trans, LGB Minnesotans together.

Our Space intentionally centers the needs and experiences of those most marginalized in our communities, including Trans and GNC people, folks of color, indigenous and Native American folks, folks with disabilities, and others at the intersections of multiple marginalized identities.

We continue to build and work to make a safer place for LGBTQ Minnesotans to meet, socialize, network, collaborate, strategize, create art, break bread, together, get resources and celebrate!
