Pay it Forward: Capitol Pathways

When I graduated from college in 2016, I found myself searching to be a part of something I believed in. I wanted to find a sense of purpose but, had no direction where to begin.  

It was during this time of soul searching that I kept coming back to my experience with the Capitol Pathways Internship Program. Today, I have the good fortune to be leading the program but, back as a college senior in 2016, I was a participant of the first ever Capitol Pathways cohort. This experience became the standard--the one internship experience I compared all my other experiences to.   

 For the first time, as an intern, I truly felt valued and like my presence made a difference. These are moments that, as a young college student of color with little work experience, I would not have had anywhere else. 

Unfortunately, not all college students are this lucky. And it is the absence of these meaningful experiences that bring to light exactly why Capitol Pathways is so important to college students of color who, like myself, may not have had the opportunities or guidance, but was hungry to learn about policymaking and be involved in their communities.

The success of this program is a group effort and I invite YOU to be a part of making sure we continue to open access and opportunity for young college students of color in policymaking for many years to come.
