This iconic program is in need of your financial support. We had a drastic funding change and have been slowly building back this support by donors like you. This robotics program is a vital link to other robotics programs in SPPS like the Beastbot 2855 at Como Park High School or MinuteBots 4536 at Central High School. Many students ascend from our FTC Program into these FRC Programs at their high schools.
Murray Robotics has historically had two First Tech Challenge (FTC) teams (22376 Short Circuits and 15369 RoboPilots) and two First Lego League(FLL) teams. Due to funding changes Murray will be offering one FTC team and the EDL program will continue to offer FLL.
We are looking for donations to help cover costs of the following items for our First Tech Challenge Team:
- tournament fees
- team t-shirts
- team snack at tournaments
- transportation to tournaments
- supplies to build robot
- coach stipends
-3D printing supplies
Why is FTC important to Murray Middle School and it's students?
Our First Tech Challenge program is the only opportunity Murray students have to compete in this type of ‘sport’.
What students like about our robotics program:
Gives us a chance to be leaders
Lets us work with teammates easily
Helps us learn new skills that we wouldn’t have learned otherwise
Gets us thinking about possible careers involving engineering, programing, designing, or any other related fields
A student even has used skills from FTC to help create a computer program for a local business
What is FTC?
“FIRST Tech Challenge students work together with their mentors to design and build dynamic robots to compete in an exciting game released every September. On and off the field, students develop STEM skills, engage in community outreach, practice engineering innovation, and build confidence to help them succeed.”
Each year, FIRST organizes a new challenge for the students to build a robot around.
What do students get out of participating in FTC at Murray Middle School?
Working as a team
Good sportsmanship in competition
Robot Design
3D Modeling (Onshape)
3D Printing
Machining of parts (CNC)
Programming skills (JavaScript and/or block code)
Robot testing and design iteration
An opportunity to compete in non-athletic format
Our ask is for you to support us in whatever ways you can. Thanks for helping us compete with our minds and learn about robotics!
