GTMD 2023 - Make An Impact

The Minnesota Tool Library is a cooperative, volunteer-driven nonprofit that offers our community access over ownership. We share tools and trade skills to help families and organizations tackle all manner of DIY projects and invest in their homes and businesses.  

MTL'ers also share our time and talents to make an impact through service projects!

We've supplied the tools and extra people power to build local playgrounds with Kaboom; including the Midtown YWCA & NE College Prep Sites, and most recently (a very rainy) build at Dunning Park!

During the height of the pandemic we mobilized our fleet of sewing machines to make thousands of masks and we designed, built, and donated hundreds of desks to kids that were distance-learning so they had a dedicated Space to Learn. 

We've supported local community gardens, school maker-spaces, neighborhood organizations, small nonprofits and PTO's with access to tools - both through discounted membership and inventory donations. 

Teams of MTL'ers have crewed many a Habitat build and home repair projects through national nonprofit partners like Rebuilding Together. We've built share sheds, little free libraries, and storage solutions for local nonprofit partners; like the recent garden stand for Eastside Neighborhood Services and shelving for Math-On A-Stick at the State Fair.

We've also provided shop experiences, mentorship, and resources for local youth so they can explore the trades, compete in the pinewood derby, earn their scouting badges, and complete their DIY service projects.
