Youth Leadership Development

Mpls Flight Squad is an organization set out to change the lives of our youth, the next generation. In 2019, Mpls Flight Squad boys had the opportunity to travel to play basketball and experience activities they would have never been able to before. Now, we are looking at doing more educational based activities with leadership development and nutrition. These young men deserve to have the opportunity for greatness. With educating and developing their mindset for greatness they will have more opportunities in life. 

Most of our Mpls Flight Squad youth are raised by single-parent, low-income households and majority are children of color. Being able to provide, nutrition education, nutrition products, leadership development and education will change these young men's lives forever. 

About 163,380, or 12.9%, of Minnesota's children lived in poverty in 2017. (MN State Demographic Center.) In 2018, 83.2% of Minnesota's high schoolers graduated on-time (in four years), the highest percentage in the past decade. However, only 51% of American Indian students, 67% of Black students, and 67% of Hispanic students graduated on time, compared to 87% of Asian students and 88% of White students. These statistics need to change and Mpls Flight Squad has the opportunity to help change this statistic and make sure that these young men of color graduate and have opportunities not given to them else where.
