Minnesota Dance Consort (MDC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating collaboration and artistry in concert dance. Founded by choreographer and arts leader Ray Terrill, MDC supports independent dance artists, choreographers, and audiences who share a belief in the transformative power of movement.

Through performances, mentorship, and partnerships, MDC fosters creative exchange and community connection. The Consort’s work celebrates the breadth of expression and individuality that defines Minnesota’s vibrant dance ecosystem. MDC’s mission is to make dance more visible, more connected, and more human—offering meaningful experiences for both artists and audiences.

Your donation directly supports our mission to bring dance and creativity to the community.

2025 in Review

We launched our inaugural project, the PULSE/impulse Emerging Choreographer Showcase in March of 2025, with choreographers Lillian Kline, Tessa Longshore, Katie Markey-Nash, and Gillian Wheaton.  It drew an enthusiastic audience and laid the foundation for an annual series, each year focusing on a different perspective within contemporary dance.  Our 2026 PULSE/impulse choreographers will be announced in December!

MDC performed at Dances on the Lakewalk in Duluth and produced the Dances at the Lakes Festival in Minneapolis.  Both concerts are free to attend and are focused on building connections within the Minnesota dance community.

"Still Horizon" at Dances at the Lakes Festival

In August we presented Memory, Momentum, and Meaning: A Personal Reflection on Fifty Years in Dance. This concert brought together five dynamic works by choreographer Ray Terrill. Spanning five decades, the concert reflects a choreographic voice shaped by curiosity, precision, and an openness to discovery. At times lyrical, at times unflinching, this concert celebrated the depth and range of Terrill’s artistic journey.

Rounding out 2025, we presented "Still Horizon" in Glow in the Dark: Dances of Resilience and Renewal this November. This concert was co-produced by MDC and Christopher Watson Dance Company at Tek Box, demonstrating MDC's new role supporting independent dance makers.

YOUR DONATION MATTERS

Our next steps going into 2026:

  • Commissioning new choreography for the next PULSE/impulse Choreographer Showcase scheduled for March 2026
  • Re-introducing Wigman-based technique training (open to the public)
  • Expanding educational and outreach programming
  • Serving as a production home for independent artists
  • Seeking opportunities to showcase MDC dance makers' new works
