Our work continues. Here is one chapter in our story.
Freddy Toran & Junail Anderson speaking at an Elim Church community meeting in November 2019.
We meet with Freedom From the Streets, in St. Paul and Minneapolis, and hold weekly conference calls with the Ramsey County Commissioner and the Director of Hennepin County Plan to End Homeless, and also most weeks with a representative from MN Interagency Council on Homelessness.
This effort is formed by people who have been impacted by the housing crisis, to have the opportunity to use their voice and power in the decisions being made about their lives. These voices, joined with others, have significantly enriched our public officials’ understanding of the needs of people who cannot stay home because they have no home.
It beneficially informs their implementation of the Governor's Executive Stay at Home Order exemption of people experiencing homelessness; and the implementation of CDC guidance on the sheltered and unsheltered, in provision of food, day shelters, sanitation stations, health services, and other help needed by people in homeless encampments. It also encourages the community priority of placing vulnerable people into hotels and 24-hour housing sites, with over 500 placed to date in the metro counties and another 500 people to be placed in the near future.
We are very thankful for your love, generosity, Junail Anderson of Freedom From the Streets & MICAH Board Member
and advocacy and for our Federal, State, and local governments’ initial responses in assisting people with limited resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The increases in resources will help thousands of Minnesotans and millions of Americans without homes or at risk of losing their home, to have a safe place to be, as we, together, address the impacts of the pandemic and long term solutions to ensure everyone ,without exception, has a safe, decent accessible and affordable home.
