DISMANTLING THE STRUCTURES AND REPAIRING THE DAMAGE OF RACISM IN MINNESOTA
In the wake of the police killing of George Floyd the church bodies leading Minnesota Council of Churches announced a 10-year vision for truth and reparations to be enacted through the Council.
Through the work of Rev. Pamela Ngunjiri and Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs we have developed a robust program of education, training and reparations planning.
Most recently this took place through "White Church Truths," an event at Westminster Presbyterian featuring Dr. Michael Emerson on the distinction between belief in Whiteness and belief in Christ. A Duluth event at Gloria Dei Lutheran, "Bridging Minnesota's Racial Legacy," brought together speakers from the NAACP Duluth and the Fond Du Lac Reservation calling that community towards a justice commitment. And the ACTION Project, A Commitment to Inclusion in Our Neighborhoods, kicked off its first cohort under MCC of congregations committing themselves as organizations and individuals to the work of racial repair in Minnesota.
This year hundreds of Minnesotans learned about Minnesota's racial legacy, about how to make personal changes, and committed to changes in our systems that will make our state's future more racially just.
