Having safe, comfortable places to walk and bike year-round has always been important to me, but never more so than this year. Now that many of my excursions involve bringing along baby, I'm even more aware of all the ways our streets still don't serve people-and especially children- as we try to walk and bike around.  Lucky for us, there's a group of committed, strategic, thoughtful people working to make the changes we need: Our Streets Minneapolis. This is my sixth and final year of supporting this organization as a board member, and I can honestly say that I have the highest respect and admiration for the staff and volunteers.

Our board fundraiser this year is highlighting Our Streets' work to make winters walkable. We'll be clearing snow so our neighbors can walk to the grocery store and essential workers can take the bus to work, while raising money so that Our Streets can keep pursuing more systemic solutions to making sure everyone in Minneapolis can walk in the winter.

I'd love to celebrate the end of my board service by boosting Our Streets financially, while making this winter just a little easier for my neighbors. There's a consistently awful stretch of sidewalk in front of an abandoned Tim Horton's just down the block from my house. Mountains of snow and ice block the way to the bus stop and force people to walk in the roadway. As part of my fundraiser, I'm going to clear this sidewalk during every snow emergency from January through March. Please donate and help cheer me on! I will match every dollar I raise from now through the end of 2020.
