Mandy's Miles for Smiles

Well, I’ve gone and done it again; I’ve cast off the bowlines and I am getting ready to set sail on another adventure. Destination: Cape Town, South Africa.

This October, I will be joining with Smile Network to hike up three different mountains, enjoy culinary delights, walk through history, and maybe even get in some Good Hope. It has been an astounding 13 years since I first set off with this wonderful organization to follow in the steps of the past and trekked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The opportunity to once again team up with Smile and experience a different part of the world while raising money and awareness was a no-brainer.  

How am I raising money, you ask? It is all possible because of readers like you. First, you should know, I will be paying my own expenses on this trip, which means that every penny donated to Smile will go towards life-altering surgeries that will change the lives of children. It is my hope that, together, we can raise enough money to be the change for 5 children.

A bit about Smile Network:

It is a non-profit, Minnesota based, humanitarian organization that performs surgeries on children born with the debilitating birth defect of a cleft lip or cleft palate. This is one of those rare charities where virtually everyone connected to it is a volunteer. The doctors and nurses volunteer their time to make this happen.

So, for as little as $500, Smile Network is able to repair a child’s birth defect and in as little as 45 minutes, restore joy and dignity to their lives.

For all practical purposes, our journey begins today. Donations of any amount are welcome, and no donation is too small. Some companies provide matching funds, so your contribution could double.
