Walk for Talk 2024

If you are close to Lucy, then you probably know all about Northern Voices. It’s impossible for us to talk about her cochlear implants without mentioning this school. Lucy enrolled when she was 18 months old (6 months after receiving her implants) and barely spoke any words. Within a few months, she was putting words together to speak in short sentences. Now she doesn’t stop talking! It has been so fun to watch her progress and all credit goes to her teachers at Northern Voices. We are grateful to have access to this school – it’s the only one of its kind in Minnesota and one of very few across the country.

Children with cochlear implants and hearing aids need early intervention with regular speech therapy to catch up to their hearing peers. Hearing devices are not the same as eyeglasses - the brain needs to learn how to associate sounds with meaning. Northern Voices provides the support these children (and their families) need but they rely on donations from the community to keep their programs operating.
