Managed by Northwest Community Action, the Little Brother Little Sister Youth Intervention & Mentorship program (LBLS) has been actively serving area youth for over 20 years. With the support from community partners, including local schools, social services and local law enforcement, we are committed to empowering youth and engaging their families in meaningful, lasting ways. LBLS focuses on youth ages 4–17 and is based on the concept that young people can benefit from having the influence of a consistent, positive, role model in their life.
Donations made to LBLS through giveMN.org will go directly to support positive youth development through group activities, mentor and family-focused training, youth life-skills development, and ongoing mentor recruitment to serve children on the waiting list.
(*Check donations can be mailed to NWCA PO Box 67 Badger MN 56714, add note in the memo line specifying “LBLS.”)
Strong social connections are the foundation of health and well-being. By providing at-risk youth with the support of a positive role model, youth learn how to resolve conflict, accept responsibility, set and achieve goals, and are often better able to explore future career paths.
The impact of mentorship is clear and powerful!
Mentored youth are:
- 20% more likely to pursue post-secondary education and training
- Earn 15% more over their lifetimes
- Close the income gap with their mentors by two-thirds
- 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs,
- 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
- 54% less likely to have be arrested
Mentorship changes lives—today and for years to come.
