I have worked in hospice for the last fifteen years and while I am not a direct caregiver myself, I have worked in administrative roles supporting those who get to deliver care to people at the end of their lives with kindness and compassion. Almost seven years ago I had the opportunity to join the Minnesota Network of Hospice and Palliative Care board of directors. MNHPC supports hospice and palliative care programs throughout the state of MN (along with a few outside of MN) through education, resources and advocacy. The Public Policy Committee which I co-Chair, has been successful in meeting with several MN legislators in getting them to author and/or sign on to important end-of-life and palliative care legislation. Joining the MNHPC board was important to me as I wanted to give to an organization, through board involvement, that has given so much to the hospice and palliative care community in Minnesota.
This is my three boys and I – they are the biggest part of my “why” of continuing to work within hospice. Compassion and kindness are central to the care provided to patients on hospice, two qualities that I hope to instill in my children and show them through the work that I do.
I am proud to be a part of this community because I believe in the mission of MNHPC and I have seen how important this work is. I hope you’ll join me in making a financial contribution to ensure that MNHPC can continue to advance hospice and palliative care in Minnesota.
Please view this KARE 11 video clip that I had the chance to do on behalf of MNHPC explaining what hospice and palliative care are.
