OUR 2022 SEASON:

• April 8-9, 2022: Ghosts Behind the Glass
  • Join us for a night of creepy opera fun as we present two spooky one-act operas and sneak peek scenes from Proving Up! 
  • The evening will include three scenes from Missy Mazzoli's acclaimed opera Proving Up performed by local singers David Walton, Amy Wolf, and Joel Mathias, as well as Daughters of the Bloody Duke by local composer Jake Runestad AND one surprise opera to be announced soon!
• July 2022: Changing the Narrative
  • After the success of our first performance in August 2021, we have decided to make Changing the Narrative an annual event! Women and nonbinary artists have had to endure sexism, harassment, and worse as just a "normal" part of being in the performance industry. We want to shed light on artists' experiences and let artists share stories in their own words and perform pieces that reflect their feelings in an open and safe environment.

  • Experience a captivating evening with the exquisite voices of Journey North Opera as arias are brought to life through the incorporation of dance, circus, and cabaret! Join us for this fanciful fusion of the arts and opera like you've never seen before!

  • Our acclaimed OperaTease program brought to a neighborhood near you in these fun mini-performances!

• November 11-13 2022: The Minnesota Premiere of Proving Up by Missy Mazzoli
  •  Our long awaited production of Proving Up is coming to the stunning Southern Theatre stage in November 2022! Proving Up is a one-act opera based on the short story by Karen Russel on hope, disillusionment and the American Dream. We are elated to bring this work to the stage for the first time in Minnesota!
  • Set in 1860’s Nebraska, Proving Up explores the Zegner family journey as they become homesteaders in the unrelenting harshness of pursuing the American Dream. Each family can earn the deed to their plot by ‘proving up’ their ability to tame the land and bring fertility and prosperity to the land they tend. The opera details the family’s pursuits in fulfilling on the requirements of the Homestead Act, which includes five years of harvest, a sod house, and the ultimate sign of success - a glass window.
